New Residents Loving Life at Coconut Point

ESTERO, FL — Roy and Debra Locascio are among more than 70 buyers who have purchased condominiums at The Residences at Coconut Point within the past 18 months, and they are loving living there.

“We downsized from a big house in Naples after our son went off to school,” said Roy. “We moved in two months ago. Its really a nice experience to live here.”

The development is located within Coconut Point in Estero, midway between Naples and Fort Myers.

The Residences at Coconut Point is like a small city all to itself — but without any of the downside of urban living.  Residents live just steps away from dozens of fabulous shops, cafes, and restaurants. The development is integrated into Simon’s upscale Coconut Point shopping center. A car isn’t even needed, though all units come with secure garage parking.

“The location is exceptional, “ said Roy, who with his wife owns two businesses in southwest Florida. “There are countless restaurants, shopping, a supermarket, a movie theater. You have everything you need within walking distance. And the price, compared to other condominiums we looked at, was a terrific value.”

Prices for the Residences range from $149,900 to $349,900. There are several different floor plans, ranging from 1,000 to 2,200 square feet. All come with private lanais or rooftop decks. There is also a spectacular European style swimming pool.

“Even the one -bedrooms are really spacious,” said Roy.

While the Locascios will live at The Residences year-round, James and Pamela Hannah, who also bought about two months ago, will use their residence as a winter getaway.

The couple lives in Virginia. “My wife was really affected by the cold weather this year,” said James.

She had a friend who lives in the area and the two of them drove around for days looking at different developments and were impressed by The Residences at Coconut Point.  When James came for a look, he too was impressed. “We looked all over but this development had everything,” he said.

Boran Craig Barber and Engel Selected to Complete Units for Buyers at Coconut Point

ESTERO, FLORIDA — Boran Craig Barber and Engel, a division of BCBE Custom Homes, has been selected to complete the unit interiors for buyers who purchase at The Residences at Coconut Point, a Mediterranean-style urban village located halfway between Naples and Fort Myers.

Buyers at the Residences can select from finished, ready to move-in units or units that have yet to be completed.   Giving the buyer’s the option to select their own finishes has proven to be a plus since the development has recorded over 50 sales in the last 12 months.   17 of the 50 sales were customized for the buyer.  These units overlook Fashion Drive or are located off one of two European-inspired courtyards.

“We selected BCBE because of their positive reputation and their commitment to quality.   We knew they would continue with the same, high level of quality found throughout our development.”  said Eric Jefferson, Project Manager of The Residences.

Boran Craig Barber and Engel is a Naples-based firm that has been in business for nearly 40 years and has constructed many high-end homes and condominium towers in Naples and around Florida. They also built the Naples Philharmonic.

“The units are decorator ready,” said Brian Mayotte, vice president of BCBE’s custom home division. “There is a selection center at the sales office where buyers can pick upgrades and custom options, such as adding walls or columns. As they sell, we are given the selections they pick and we build them out.”

“Involved in the selection process for buyers are items such as hardwood floors, carpet, stone, granite counter tops, plumbing fixtures and appliances,” he said.  “Most of these items come standard, its just a matter of selecting styles and colors.”

In most cases, the work can be completed within 90 days.

“It is really pleasurable to work with the people at The Residences at Coconut Point,” Mayotte said. “These are nice units in a good location. There are a lot of reasons why you would want to live there. It’s a great location and these are beautiful, high end residences.”

The Residences at Coconut Point contains a total of 290 units.  The development is like a small city all to itself. Residents live steps away from dozens of shops, cafes, and restaurants-even a movie theater. The 290 luxury residences, in eight three-story buildings, range in price from $149,900 to $349,900. Meet Anna Green and Ken Dunn

Why did you choose Coconut Point?  We weren’t looking to buy. We had been renting. But when we saw this place we thought it was such a great investment. We would not normally have chosen such an urban setting, but it is so tastefully done. We thought the buildings were beautiful and the price was right. We like the convenience of being able to walk to shops, restaurants, the bank, all those kinds of things.

Are you seasonal or annual residents? How much time do you spend at Coconut Point? We closed in July. We plan to spend about five to six months a year here.

Where do you spend the rest of the year? Outside of Toronto, Canada.

What are your hobbies? We both like yoga. It is a big part of our lives. We also love the beach, bike riding, playing music and painting. In fact, Anna recently completed a painting done on her lanai. It is of a woman meditating and the view of Coconut Point is in the background.

Please share any other information regarding your family, friends—anything you wish.  We have three children in their 20s who live in Canada. Anna’s mother has had a place in Estero for years. Ken is a semiretired psychologist, while Anna still runs a brain injury rehab center outside of Toronto. Prior to buying at Coconut Point, we wintered in Costa Rica.

A Day In The Life At Coconut Point

Most days, Trini Lye gets up early and walks across Fashion Drive to the Barnes and Noble, where she gets a steaming hot cup of coffee and reads the morning paper.

Trini, who was among the first buyers at The Residences at Coconut Point, usually follows her coffee and paper by doing some errands, such as going to the bank or shopping.

Then, it’s off to lunch with one of her many friends in the area. Trini, 78, has lived in southwest Florida seasonally for the past 15 years. Her prior residence was in a gated community and she says she likes the lifestyle at Coconut Point much better.

“I’m a city girl,” she says. “San Francisco is my home. At Coconut Point, I Iike walking out my door to go to a movie or to eat at one of the many restaurants. It’s convenient. When I am here, its like I am checking in for a vacation. Its a good retreat for me.”

She likes sitting at a cafe watching people going in and out of the many stores. Lunch for Trini and her friends is usually at Ted’s Montana Grill for a burger or the California Pizza Kitchen for a slice or two.

After lunch, she will often go baby-sit her grandchildren or take them somewhere for fun.

Many afternoons, Trini will sit on her balcony and watch the action. “Its entertaining for me to watch all the people shopping.”

Sometimes, she drops by Anything But Water, a bathing suit store, to chat with a tenant who rents her old condo in Bonita Springs and who works at the store.

While she is “not a pool person,” she sometimes goes over to the pool to chat with people if there is a special event going on. “I’ve met quite a few nice people there,” she says.

In the evening, Trini likes to dine at one of the fine restaurants along Fashion Drive. Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Blue Water are her favorites.  “I don’t like to cook,” she says. “And there are a lot of good restaurants.”

Mediterranean Revival Architecture at The Residences

The Residences at Coconut Point were designed to emulate the distinctive Mediterranean Revival style, an eclectic design movement that was first seen in the United States around the turn of the 19th Century. It came into prominence in the 1920s and 1930s and evolved from a renewed interest in Italian Renaissance architecture most often seen in palaces and seaside villas.

In Florida, the Mediterranean Revival style is most associated with architects August Geiger and Addison Mizner.

Some of the most noted examples of this type of architecture in Florida include Villa Vizcaya in Miami, built in 1914, the Freedom Tower in Miami, finished in 1925, the Vinoy Park Hotel in St. Petersburg, completed in 1926, the Boca Raton Resort and Spa, done in 1926, and Ca d’Zan, the former Ringling estate in Sarasota, finished in 1926.

Mediterranean Revival structures are typically multi-story and are characterized by primary colored facades. They also feature stucco wall surfaces, arches, and flat terra cotta or tile roofs.

Features usually include balconies and window grills, often made out of wrought iron.

Gerry Kosene, chairman of Kosene and Kosene Residential, the developer of The Residences at Coconut Point, said Estero city officials favored the style.

“They wanted to emulate an Addison Mizner-esque Mediterranean style found on the Italian and French coasts,” he said. “They thought it would be long-lasting and appropriate. It was fun to do. The idea was not to replicate but to respect. It’s kind of a hybrid.”

As for design features, he said Kosene developments always feature balconies, French doors, 10-foot ceilings, granite counter tops and marble. “That’s our signature,” he said.

In addition to granite countertops in the kitchens and marble tops in the baths, the residences also include ceramic tile in all kitchens, baths and laundry areas, as well as breakfast bars in all kitchens. Residences also feature open floor plans, large walk-in closets, eight-foot solid core interior doors, luxurious master suites with soaking tubs and separate walk-in showers, oversized mirrors, designer lighting and smoothfinish walls and ceilings.

All balconies feature French-style open-out doors. Windows and doors are hurricane resistant. All residences come with gated parking, and the garages feature a keyless access system.

Residents enjoy a spectacular clubhouse with fitness center, a European-style swimming pool, complete with spa and sun deck, as well as an outdoor social deck and grill area.

The design of the pool area is also something that sets The Residences at Coconut Point apart. It is elevated for privacy, consistent with the architecture and is set within a quaint courtyard that is the central focus of the community. The wall between the hot-tub and the pool has a fountain

that empties into the pool – adding to the beauty of the design.
